Kids League 2017
June 12th, 2017:
This year we are having the Kids League on Monday and my boss had me come in at 11:30 in the morning to start getting things set up for the league. The kids would get a lunch and then go out at noon to start their golf. For the first week of the kids league we had them golfing nine holes on our red course, with the older kids going off first from the white tees. They three groups of three for the older kids going out, then the younger kids would follow teeing off from 150 yards out on par fours, 200 yards out on the par fives and from the ladies tees for the par threes. We had three groups of three for the younger kids as well, with them playing a best ball in order to keep things moving. Then my main priority during the league was to make sure that all the groups were maintaining a steady pace of play and that no group fell too far behind of another. Then after the younger groups finished up their round the group that had the lowest score won a prize of two Srixon golf balls.

For the second week of the Kids League I got to the course again at 11:30 in the morning to help set things up for it. Today we had the kids out on our blue course and today I drove the cart that had the water cooler tied to the back. So today my responsibilities for the league was not only to keep the kids moving at a nice and steady pace, but also ensure that they stayed hydrated and cool. Today we had the same amount of kids that we had the first week, having two groups of three for the older groups and then three threesomes of the younger kids. Once again we had the younger kids playing from the shorter distances and also doing a best ball just like last week. Then after the younger kids finished their nine holes, the team that had the best score won a bag of tees for each team member.

Today I came into work for the Kids League at 11:30 to help set up for the kids league again and today it was just me and my boss Doug that were running it. After the kids had their lunch, we sent the older kids out first like usual out onto our white course. Today we had two threesomes for the thirteen and older age group which went off first, with them playing against each other individually. Then after they went out we had the twelve and under league go off behind them, having one less than usual so we were able to have two foursomes instead of three threesomes, so they were able to move much quicker than usual, playing a best ball. So then my job once we got the kids out on the course was I would have to make sure they kept a nice and steady pace and that they did not fall too far behind. I was also able to teach them a few rules of golf; for example, one of the kids was in a sand bunker and he did not know that your club cannot touch the sand unless it is while you are swinging. Then once the all the kids came in, the team that had the lowest score won a couple of new golf balls as a prize.

Today I came in once again at 11:30 in the morning for the Kids League and today we had them going off of our red course. This was the first Kids League that we had in two weeks, not having the one because it was over the July 4th weekend and when they were supposed to have it on July 10th, we had some bad thunderstorms that flooded the course. The rain that we got from the 10th until the 14th really slowed things down at the course; we had to close the course for almost a week due to flooding by the creek. But by July 16th we were able to open the course again so by the kids league the course was still pretty wet and soft in many areas but it was playable. We had a few less kids come this week since we went two weeks without having the league. There was twelve out of the usual fourteen kids that showed up this week and again like last week a had to make sure that the kids kept a nice and steady pace. Then once again when the younger kids finished playing their scramble, the group that had the lowest score won a bag of tees.

Today I came into work at 11:30 for work once again for the kids league on Monday’s. For the Kids League this week we were short two kids because one had to go to practice for a sport and the other was at camp for the week. We had the kids go off of our white course this week and like usual the older kids went down first playing from our white tees, having them go tee off a few minutes past noon. The older kids had two groups, two threesomes this week, which is what they usually do and then we had two foursomes today for the younger kids. Once again my job today was to make sure that the kids all keep moving at a steady pace and to help them improve their ability to play golf in any way that I can. Today however we had a twosome that was not a part of the league, a couple of older gentlemen that I had to tell them that they could not play white at the time because of the league. They did not seem to mind at all and were happy to go play our red course for their back nine. Then once we got all the kids in from the league, the younger ones who were doing a scramble, we gave the winning team a couple of golf balls per person as a prize.
July 31st, 2017:
Today I came into work at 11:30 like usual for the Kids League and this weeks Kids League would be the last one for the year. We had all seven of the older kids come to the last league day and we had nine of the younger kids come. We had our last league going off of our red course, which made most of the kids pretty happy since a lot of them like our red course. Today we had both the older groups and the younger groups playing a scramble, to make things a little more fun for the older kids. Then once again my job this week was to ensure that the kids kept a nice and steady pace of play and that they did not get too slow. Then today we handed out ten-dollar gift cards to all the kids who participated in the league, which most of the younger kids used that day, getting some golf balls and tees. Then the winning teams between the older group and the younger group won two sleeves of golf balls. Also since it was the last week of the Kids League we ordered pizza for the kids to have for lunch. So all the kids had a fun time playing in the league and hopefully we can see them back next year and maybe a few new faces too.
Kids Clinic June 5th-8th, 2017
This week we have the Kids Clinic from Monday through Thursday, having two times for lessons for kids. We had the thirteen and older group go out to the range at nine o’clock and then we would have the twelve and under group go out after them at ten o’clock to the range. Both groups would have an hour to work on their swing with myself and the courses golf pro assisting them to help them improve. On the first day we had them take a high iron, so clubs like a seven, eight or nine iron to the range and we would assist them if they were having trouble hitting it straight, or even just making solid contact with the ball. For the first day, we had four kids come out for the thirteen and older clinic and then we had nine people for the twelve and under league on Monday.
On Tuesday for the groups we moved up to low irons, being anything between a three iron and six iron. The goal of today was to see the kids hit their low irons further than their high irons from the day before. Today once again we had four kids for the thirteen and over clinic, but for the twelve and under clinic we had three more kids show up to make twelve participants. Now moving on to Wednesday, we had the kids hit drivers and woods, the clubs they should be hitting the farthest. Today we had an additional kid show up for the thirteen and over clinic at nine in the morning, bringing that groups total up to five kids participating. Then on the last day, Thursday, we had the kids working on their chipping and putting on our practice green. Then also for the last day, in addition to teaching the kids how to chip and putt, we also had a putting competition to see who could get the closest to making a long putt. We then gave out some golf balls to all of the winners of the putting competition.
